All About: Marine Farming Association

The Marine Farming Association is a regional industry body representing aquaculture interests in the top of the South Island (Te Tauihu). A great deal of the marine farming in NZ happens in the top of the South. The species farmed in the area are King Salmon, Green Lipped Mussels and Pacific Oysters.

Aquaculture is an extremely important part of our economy and a growing industry in which the Government is supporting and investing in. The Nelson Tasman region offers many opportunities to both study and work in aquaculture.

If you have an interest in Aquaculture, but are still at school, never fear as you can start studying from year 11 upwards: Still at School

If you decide that a student loan is not for you and you just want to jump in, get a job and start learning as much as you can from those who are already in the industry – then that’s an option as well.

Training in Aquaculture while working: On the Job

Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) / Te Pukenga, the closest training provider to aquaculture in Te Tauihu: Tertiary. Because NMIT are on our doorstep we work closely with them to ensure their courses align to industry need.
Their Aquaculture courses are based out of their campus in Nelson and there are a range of courses to suit everyone:
