What an incredible day it was at FANTASTIC FUTURES, organised by Ange at the Nelson Regional Development Agency (NRDA). Founders Heritage Park in Nelson was abuzz with excitement – 200 students from 13 local high schools, alongside 25 local businesses, industry representatives, and training organisations. The event focused on career pathways, ‘learn while you earn’ roles, and inspiring and informing students about the great opportunities in Nelson Tasman.
The day kicked off with an interactive game with students and businesses using the GooseChase app. Each business had ten minutes with each group of students before the buzzer signaled the next destination on the map. The stands were brimming with activities, from creating electrical circuit boards and VR to remote controlled diggers and trying on personal protective equipment. Students had the chance to chat with local businesses and create connections for the future. The Energy Centre buzzed with conversations and activity, lots of fun and valuable learning and inspiration.
Students were inspired by guest speaker Jesse from Trade Collective. A delicious morning tea and lunch were served by Beachside Conference and Events. During lunch, the talented Nayland College student Alyahna (Imani-J) treated everyone to a captivating musical performance.
Afterwards, students and teachers had free time to reconnect with the businesses, ask further questions, and deepen their understanding of various industries. The day concluded with a celebration of the winning teams from the game and prizes.
