Students from four local high schools had an enriching and inspiring day exploring careers available in Hair and Beauty.
The day commenced at Aboki Hair, where Owner Melissa provided valuable insights into the training pathways and apprenticeships. To enhance the students’ learning experience, they were divided into teams and engaged in a friendly hairstyling competition. The competition was evaluated by Aboki staff, who were present for on-site training.
The journey continued to Mabin House – Body and Skin Sanctuary, where the students had the privilege of hearing personal stories from the dedicated staff about their own career journeys. They also had the opportunity to explore the beautiful treatment rooms. Some students indulged in eyebrow treatments, while others tried the dermabrasion equipment.
The final destination was NMIT, where students experienced a taste of campus life at the Ake Ake cafe before proceeding to the hair and beauty salons. Tutors and current L4 and L5 NMIT students talked about study options before heading off to experience beauty treatments like hand massages and facials. They also heard about the science in beauty and how some students pathway into nursing. Students learnt about running a business and got to ask the nitty gritty questions about working in the trade.
Overall, the students had an exceptional day of exploration and immersion into the world of Hair and Beauty, gaining valuable knowledge, and experiencing the various opportunities within the industry.
