Nadia, 23, works as a Senior Beauty Therapist at Mabin House. Nadia has been at Mabin House for two years and is responsible for taking care of clients and carrying out services depending on their needs. Nadia currently offers every service on the menu that Mabin House offers, so her day is full of variety, from relaxing massage and facials to more advanced techniques like laser, needling and cosmetic tattooing.
Growing up, Nadia always enjoyed doing makeup and knew she wanted to do something in this area. She enrolled in the trades course that was offered through high school, did the Beauty Therapy course and from there, went on to NMIT to gain the two-year diploma.
Nadia gained experience straight after graduating and after a couple of years joined the Mabin House team where they have offered further training opportunities. She has now completed laser training and has a qualification in cosmetic tattooing also.
Each day is different for Nadia, seeing different clients and providing a variety of services. At the start of Nadia’s working day she checks her schedule to see who she has in that day and will set up accordingly. She says one of her favourite parts of the job is:
“interacting with my clients and making them feel good – you feel like you make a difference to their lives.”
Mabin House is set up beautifully, with six different treatment rooms, as well as a lounge to relax in before and after treatment. Their goal is to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible, so Nadia has a strong focus on customer service. She makes sure the rooms are well presented and communicates with her client throughout the service. Nadia loves the team environment; they all help each other out and get the opportunity to learn from one another.
The beauty industry can have some busy periods, so Nadia occasionally works on the weekends to meet client’s needs. She says her job has given her confidence to back herself and she prides herself on giving her all. Nadia likes to relax on her days off and spend time with friends and family. She enjoys going to the beach and making the most of the Nelson climate.
Nadia shared some great advice for those wanting to get started in the beauty industry:
“there are plenty of opportunities out there, don’t be afraid to find the right fit for you and back yourself.”
