Laura, 25, is now a qualified Beauty Therapist and works as a skin and laser therapist at The Cosmetic Clinic in Richmond. Laura is also a qualified make-up artist and has always had a passion for the beauty industry – with a drive to make others feel good. This started when Laura went through her own journey when she struggled with her skin, which she has now found incredibly beneficial with her job. Laura describes her current role as “really rewarding and enjoys seeing people walk out the door feeling good about themselves”.
Laura completed a Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Level 5) at NMIT, which took two years. Since joining The Cosmetic Clinic, Laura has undergone further advanced training through the clinic which she found extremely valuable. The Cosmetic Clinic also provide an online training system where staff can go over learning anytime they need. Being new to the industry, Laura says:
“Having ongoing support has really helped my confidence and abilities in my role as a Beauty Therapist”.
When asking Laura what it’s like to work at The Cosmetic Clinic, she said “I absolutely love it! The team here are very supportive and it feels like family.” The team often make an effort to catch up outside of work too. There is always something new to learn and new treatments are introduced regularly which keeps it interesting. Laura says “no two days are the same. Each client that walks through the door is here for something different and are on their own personal journey – being a part of that is amazing.”
Laura performs a range of different treatments each day from laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, light therapy, micro needling to face peels. She said “dermaplaning would have to be one of her favourite treatments because of the instant results.”
Laura has built great relationships with her clients and says, “meeting new people everyday is an exciting part of the job.” The Cosmetic Clinic pride themselves on being an inclusive, uplifting place for everyone to enjoy and feel comfortable. Laura works a rotating roster which allows her every second weekend off as the clinic is open seven days a week.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Laura – she had a challenging start in the industry. Her confidence was knocked and she was reluctant to try again in the beauty industry. Laura says:
“Don’t let one bad experience hold you back. If you are really passionate about something, back yourself and keep trying.”
Laura is so proud that she did and of where she is now. She is excited to continue growing her career in the beauty industry. We talked to Laura about what she enjoys doing in her spare time – she agrees that work life balance is really important. Laura is often going on walks, hanging with her friends and family. She enjoys going to the local beaches and rivers.
