Youth Employment Success is an online platform that supports all young people aged 16-24 to connect with local youth friendly employers for employment-related opportunities to help them better understand the world of work.
We know that sometimes there are gaps in support for young people during the transition from education to work, and sometimes the advice given at schools doesn’t cover every option. We also know there’s a mismatch between employers’ expectations of young people during recruitment and young people’s understanding of what is expected of them.
Many young people tell us that confidence is an issue for them – they find interview situations particularly stressful as they have no prior experience of the workplace and often don’t know how to talk about their skills or how to market themselves.
YES provides young people a connection to willing employers, who will introduce them to various industries and pathways available across Nelson Tasman through a range of opportunities:
- Desk shadowing
- CV review
- Mock interviews
- Work experience
- Business walk through
- Coffee catch ups
- Apprenticeships
- Industry standard training
- and much more!
Long-term goals of Youth Employment Success:
- help the community to become known as one that supports and encourages our young people
- work towards a community where no young person ever leaves school, not knowing where to next and what support is available to them
- substantially and permanently reduce the number of unemployed youth in our community
