Conservation Careers Day – 7 May 2025

Local high school students had an exciting opportunity to explore potential career paths in environmental conservation during the Conservation Careers Day.

The day kicked off at Tahunanui Beach reserve with Nelmac Kumanu staff, who shared insights on GIS mapping, plant species conservation, and drone usage. Students also learned about career journeys within the conservation industry.

At Natureland Wildlife Trust, students crafted enrichment treats for monkeys and birds, and participated in daily care routines like enclosure cleaning and feeding pigs, offering a hands-on experience in wildlife conservation.

At NMIT Richmond campus, students discussed study options and career opportunities with experts in the field, gaining valuable insights into different career pathways.

The day concluded at Eves Valley, where students immersed themselves in local ecology and learned about conservation technology amidst the stunning natural surroundings.

This Conservation Careers Day, organised by Nelson Regional Development Agency in collaboration with Nelmac, Natureland, and NMIT, inspired students and deepened their understanding of the diverse opportunities within the conservation sector.
