What an enriching day it was for local Nelson Tasman students and staff as they delved into the dynamic world of Logistics!
Ange from NRDA, in collaboration with Port Nelson, Mainfreight, and NMIT, organised a captivating Logistics Careers Day as part of the Education to Employment programme. This event proved to be a success, bringing together students from four local high schools.
The day commenced with an informative bus tour of Port Nelson, where Paul and Jacqui provided insightful commentary on operations and the diverse range of roles available. Witnessing the bustling activity firsthand, students gained invaluable exposure to the impressive skills and machinery in action.
The next destination was the bustling Nelson depot of Mainfreight, where Branch Manager George led an engaging tour, highlighting the various areas of expertise that Mainfreight embodies.
Following lunch, students immersed themselves in the NMIT Maritime and Business programme areas. Students learnt about the multiple industry options and career pathways in the maritime field. From captaining cruise ships, to working long trips on fishing boats. Following this students had a great time working out how to wrangle seacraft from the virtual bridge of the navigation simulator
it was a great day for the students, offering them a firsthand glimpse into the intricacies of real-life jobs in logistics. They departed feeling inspired by the myriad of job opportunities awaiting them in this exciting field.
