Pasifika Pathways Careers Event – 29 October 2022

What a great turnout for the Pasifika Pathways Careers Event on Saturday! Almost 100 young people and families came to Saxton Oval to enjoy the day.

As part of the Education to Employment programme, Ange from NRDA partnered with Nelson Tasman Pasifika Community Trust to bring the Pasifika community together and share career opportunities and pathways available within the region. The day was filled with inspiring speakers, information, entertainment, group activities, and competition with prizes. It was great seeing everyone involved and taking positive steps towards their futures.

We had speaker Matty of Nelson City Council sharing his inspiring career journey, Jason from Go with Tourism highlighting different career directions in hospitality and tourism, Lorna from Port Nelson give an overview of the roles and benefits of joining this large regional employer, Jackie and Muzz from St John, talking about emergency health service careers, Amie-Jo from NMIT | Te Pūkenga presenting programme areas, study pathways and scholarships, Maddi presenting LifeLab, Cindy from Chambers & Jackett sharing a female perspective in Civil Construction careers, Allan from Vailima Orchard sharing his inspiring story of how he has gained horticulture qualifications and Chris from Sport Tasman sharing his student perspective of studying a Bachelor of Sport at NMIT | Te Pūkenga which will have long-lasting rewards.

The Pasifika Youth Group performed some impressive dances to entertain the crowd and Seini’s Kitchen served up a feast of much-loved Pasifika food favourites!
